Bululs, or rice guardians, are made and used by the Ifugao tribal folk residing in the far north of the Philippine island of Luzon. Most are carved squatting or sitting. Standing specimens like this one (with age) are very rare indeed. The figure is atypically large, stretching approximately 36" from base to crown This lot and more forthcoming, are from the estate of a true antiquity connoisseur in every sense of the word. This antiquarian truly enjoyed the treasures collected as well as world travel, humanitarianism, and missionary work. This monumental Central Florida collection compiled in their lifetime of art and cultural touchstones is presented in this and many more future sales.
