Chinese ink and watercolor on paper scroll; Inscribed by Liao Jingwen (Xu Beihong’s wife) 2012. Measure69″ x 19″ Overall, Size, 21″ x 14″ Actual Size. Xu Beihong (1895–1953) was primarily known for his Chinese ink-and-wash painting of horses and birds. He was one ofthe first Chinese artists to articulate the need for artistic expressions that reflected a new modern China at the beginningof the 20th century. He was also regarded as one of the first to create monumental oil paintings with epic Chinesethemes—a show of his high proficiency in an essential Western art technique.Liao Jingwen (Wife of Xu Beihong, Curator of Xu Beihong Memorial Museum), inspected the painting on August 10th, 2006 and deemed the painting is authentic.
