(RUNS AND STOP FROM BEING STORED FOR A LONG TIME, WILL NEED TO BE SERVICED) Rare Circa 1815 Southern Federal Tall Case Clock of possible Tennessee origin with "A. Hopkins, Litchfield" signed wooden dial and works. The clock has 31 day calendar and second hands. A. Hopkins (1779 – 1838) manufactured clocks and clock works from 1810 to 1825 in the parish of Northfield and town of Litchfield, Connecticut. The hand painted arch top wooden face is signed "A. Hopkins, Litchfield". The polychrome and gilt decorated face has two faux keyholes, four brightly painted gold, red and yellow spandrels and urn with pink roses decorated top arch, face measures11.75" X 16"The tulip poplar and pine clock case has faint remnants of the grained original mahogany finish, tombstone waist door, flat top rectangular hood and door with what might be the original wavy glass. Clock has box formed base with tapered feet. Measures 84" inches high X 18.75" wide X 11" deep. Bell has very nice ring, pendulum and two weights look to be original. Around 1809 Hopkins moved to Prince Edward, Virginia for about a year and possibly became acquainted with southern clock and case makers.
