RARE Milan 1906 poster lithograph. Internationale Ausstellung Mainland -Simplon Tunnel. The artist from Trieste chooses an allegorical composition that is easy to read and strong visual impact to advertise the exhibition. At the helm of a locomotive, symbol of the speed of progress, a young Mercury from behind, flanked by the allegorical figure of Science. The two are about to emerge from the darkness of the tunnel tunnel in the light of a large plain. On the horizon, small but recognizable, is the silhouette of the Milan Cathedral. This vision of Metlicovitz will prove to be the most successful and popular image of the Exposition. Measure 28 1/4″ X 19 1/4″.
