This Edison-style incandescent lamp was owned by Madeleine Edison Sloane 1888-1979,Thomas Alva Edison’s daughter.In the 1960s, the lamp was obtained from her by Mr. Theo C. Willis, of Ashland, Ohio. Mr. Willis owned“The Possum Run General Store”, an 1875-era early American museum of acclaim, visited by Ohio’sgovernor Michael DiSalle and Queen Elizabeth II, in 1959.The current owner of this Edison-style incandescent lamp acquired it in October 1972 from Mr.Theo C. Willis named above.The lamp is said to have been made by General Electric, in 1929, to commemorate “Light’s GoldenJubilee”’ in Dearborn, Michigan, upon the 50th Anniversary of Thomas Edison’s incandescent light bulb.Luminaries who participated in the celebration included Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, President HerbertHoover and Mrs. Hoover, J. P. Morgan, Walter Chrysler, Marie Curie, Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon, John D. Rockefeller Jr., Will Rogers, Orville Wright, and Albert Einstein.It was confirmed in 1984 by James H Jensen, manager of the General Electric Lighting Institute, NELAPark, Cleveland, Ohio that this replica was made by their facility to celebrate “Light’s Golden Jubilee”, “circa 1930”.Thomas Edison passed away in 1931.The current owner has had this, and other items of value secured in a bank vault.The winner of this Incandescent lamp replica will also receive a notebook with 12 pages ofdocumentation with photos, letters, and an explanation of the item from the current owner.
